Review of Eleaf iKuun i80. Box mod for a cigarette maker

In this review, we are talking about a compact box mod from Eleaf called iKuun i80.

It just so happened that since ancient times, box mods with built-in batteries have not been as valued among vapers as their counterparts with replaceable batteries. Of course, compared to the former, the latter have a lot of advantages, but devices with non-removable batteries cannot be written off. Sometimes, for the sake of compact size or interesting appearance, the manufacturer is forced to give up the ability to independently change the batteries in its mod, and in this case, the device automatically receives a lot of skepticism and concerns about potential battery wear. Today we will consider just such a box mod from Eleaf, which, one might say, has already “eaten a dog” in the production of such devices. Nevertheless, the products of this manufacturer have always been in demand and, looking ahead, I will say that the hero of today’s review will definitely find its buyer.

The little iKuun comes in a bright and colorful cardboard box. The numerous droplets applied almost over the entire area of the upper part of the package are confusing – you expect to see a device with protection from moisture or dust inside. voopoo vape But there are no surprises here. On the front side you can see an image of a box mod in a black and white color scheme, although under the lid there is a completely different color. Strange. The name of the device, its main “features” – all this is standard information present on most boxes with “vapes”.

Eleaf iKuun i80 packaging

In general, the boxes of the Eleaf company do not really change from device to device, but, according to the law of the genre, we still continue to examine the cardboard brick in which the culprit of today’s review is located. Of the useful information on the sides of the box, you can find, perhaps, a verification code under the protective layer and a crookedly printed word “black” above the barcode, telling us about the color of the box mod. The back side, as usual, carries brief information about the device, various certificates and warnings, as well as a list of the complete set. Actually, we open the box and begin to study this very complete set.

The iKuun i80 is conveniently located in a foam pad with a glued tape for easy access to the rest of the box contents. Traditionally, a meager set of accessories awaits us inside, such as a micro-USB cable for charging and updating the firmware, as well as instructions in many languages. By the way, there is a Russian translation here, and it is quite good. You can’t tell right away that the device is Chinese, right down to the screws.

At the moment, the iKuun i80 is available in six possible colors, which are typical of mods from Eleaf recently. We have a black version for review, the most attractive in my opinion.

When you first take the box mod out of the box, you are amazed at its compactness. The height of the iKuun i80 is only 80 mm, which can be called a stealth format without a twinge of conscience. The manufacturer managed to place all the controls on the front side of the device. The front panel is made of glossy plastic, which is great at collecting fingerprints, and it is also the Fire button. The box mod, by the way, only responds to pressing in the upper part, not over the entire area. The power up and down buttons, together with the micro-USB port, form a smiling face, above which is a recessed Reset button.

On the sides of the iKuun i80, the manufacturer’s logo and the name of the device are painted in white. The back, like the front, is made of the same glossy and easily soiled plastic. It must be said that most of the case is probably plastic, which tells us that Eleaf is saving on materials. And it is precisely because of the small number of metal parts that the device feels like a toy in your hand. A cheap Chinese toy, but for grown-up guys.

The back plastic insert smoothly flows into the lower part, abundantly strewn with holes for ventilation (or gas exhaust). Two star-shaped screws hold the entire structure together, inside which a built-in 3000 mAh battery is hidden. The connector in the iKuun i80 is standard for products from Eleaf, Wismec and Joyetech. During the time I used the box mod, I did not observe any problems with screwing the “atoms”. I was pleased with the device’s support for a modern format of atomizers. Any tanks and drippers up to 25 mm in diameter will fit perfectly on the iKuun i80.

Board functionality

The above-mentioned trio of companies Eleaf, Wismec and Joyetech use identical boards in their box mods, with only some cosmetic and technical improvements. iKuun i80 is no exception. I suggest you watch the video below to see how the box mod works. It is advisable to turn on the subtitles to understand what is happening.

I was unable to figure out what this mysterious ENU submenu item is. There is no necessary information in the instructions or on the manufacturer’s website. As well as in the few reviews of this device on the Internet. Otherwise, we have a completely functional device with an abundance of various settings for all occasions. I would like to find fault, perhaps, with the deeply hidden and important function of preheating the coil.

Impressions and conclusions

For Who, and most importantly, why do Eleaf and many other manufacturers continue to produce similar devices with built-in batteries? First of all, this form factor of the devices will show itself perfectly in conjunction with some MTL tank, of which there have been quite a lot lately. That’s exactly how I used the iKuun i80. During the testing of the box mod, I was unable to identify any catastrophic shortcomings that would make vaping difficult or even impossible. However, like any other device, today’s patient is not without its drawbacks. Firstly, the abundance of plastic parts does not give the mod reliability and, even more so, a decent appearance. In addition, the plastic used here is quite easily soiled and prone to scratches. Secondly, the implementation of the Fire button like an expander is certainly a very convenient option, but each click is accompanied by a loud ringing sound, making the use of the device at least annoying.

There is no point in scolding the iKuun i80 for its built-in battery. The capacity of 3000 mAh is quite enough for a day of vaping when using a 20-watt device in a pair, I repeat, with some cigarette pod. Naturally, no one forbids you to screw a dripper onto the box mod and release clouds of steam. Fortunately, the power of 80 watts should be enough. Unlike a small-capacity battery. But even here, fast charging with a current of up to 2A comes to the rescue, allowing you to replenish the spent milliampere hours quite quickly.

What I liked:

Compactness

Adequate board

Support for “atoms” up to 25 mm

Nice appearance

Fast charging with a current of up to 2A

What I didn’t like:

Too many plastic parts

Easily soiled case

Loud Fire button

Eleaf products have almost always been distinguished by democratic prices. Considering the presence of a built-in battery on board, it is a pretty decent price tag.
