Review of Smoant Charon TS 218. Sensors for the masses
Good day to all, friends! In today’s short review, I would like to tell you about one of the latest creations of the Smoant Company. Or to be more precise, about the Charon TS 218 box mod.
Smoant Charon TS 218 box mod packaging
You get the box mod in a cardboard box with some semblance of a honeycomb and the name of the device on the front side. In the upper right corner there is a small sticker that tells us about the color scheme of the contents (I got Stainless Steel). On the sides of the box there is a duplication of the name of the box mod, a link to the official website of the manufacturer, a mention of the recycling of the packaging (by the way, this cardboard box is made of recycled paper, and the print is made of some sqy ink) and a mention of the manufacturer with a logo in the form of a cute smiling ant. vapelf ice vape On the back there are brief characteristics of the device, a barcode and a sticker for checking the originality.
A little about the colors. On the manufacturer’s official website you can find a picture showing 6 color options. But! On the Internet I also came across a photo with 10 different options…
We open the box – we meet the following set:
quality certificate;
warranty card;
manual on the correct use of batteries;
colorful accordion instructions in English and Chinese (by the way – intuitive);
the box mod itself;
microUSB-USB cable for charging and firmware updates.
Appearance of the Smoant Charon TS 218 box mod
We take out the box mod to make a quick inspection. As soon as we took it in our hand, we immediately felt a slight coolness – the device is made of metal on the sides. And quite high-quality and ergonomic (the rounded shape of the device feels very comfortable in the hand). In front and back – glass panels with protection from scratches (I will not check this, of course). In general, from afar, you might think that this is not a box mod at all – rather a player. Or a small mobile phone …
Now let’s take a closer look. On top is a spring-loaded brass connector with a recommended landing diameter of 25 mm (on the platform). On the front side, under the table, there is a 2.4-inch touchscreen with fairly wide frames (although in 2017 everyone is chasing “framelessness”, and the TFT screen has a resolution of 320×240 pixels – but this is not a mobile phone at all…). On the left is the following: a screen lock button, a FIRE button (plastic and tactilely pleasant due to a small relief surface) and a microUSB connector (let me remind you – you can both update the firmware and charge your inserted batteries with a current of 1.0A). At the bottom are 6 oblong holes for cooling the device. The right side is empty, only cool pleasant metal. The entire back is occupied by a cover hiding the battery compartment (it opens easily – there is a small recess at the bottom).
Let’s get inside. We open the lid – and immediately see magnets. Yes, 8 magnets (4 + 4) are responsible for holding the box mod in place, which do their job perfectly (there are no creaks or backlashes – everything holds as it should). Next, our gaze falls on the battery compartment, which is the most standard here – 18650 format. They are installed sequentially (there is a designation inside the compartment itself). For their convenient removal, a fabric strip is used in the middle.
It seems that we are done with the appearance. Let’s move on to the description of the operation and functionality.

Conclusions
Well, here’s a brief summary:
an interesting solution in terms of the device’s design (ergonomics + metal + touch screen = really cool!);
simple and convenient functionality (everything will be clear even to a beginner without instructions);
compact size (but also quite heavy);
honest board (over several days of testing it showed itself only from the most positive side);
glass panels (it seems great, but without films your fingerprints will strain your eyes – do not remove the factory ones or find universal ones and make the size you need with scissors);
menu (or rather the interface – it could have been somehow more pleasant and more expanded, or something…).
And finally. If we take it as a whole, despite minor quibbles, I liked the device. The guys from Smoant continue their work to improve their products and create something new, thereby giving us the opportunity to feel the latest in the vape industry in our hands. Today, Charon TS 218 is available for purchase. In principle, I can’t say that it’s expensive. For this money, you get a really working box mod that will definitely work for you every day!
