In this review, I will tell you about a large (really large) and powerful (really powerful) box mod from Wotofo called MDURA PRO (really M…dura, pro…)

Powerful and large box mods are coming back! It is gratifying to see, in the times of total dominance of pods, that famous manufacturers do not forget about solid boards. I modestly cherish the hope that so soon and mechanical mods are not long left, and the spiral of history will make a turn. The MDURA PRO box mod is sold either with the NextMesh Pro Tank, or without it. It was in the latter version that the device came to me for review. The main packaging is cardboard and black, on it (on the back) is the name of the device, certificate icons, warnings, the manufacturer’s logo and the address in China. vaporesso luxe The top cover is made of transparent plastic, which allows you to see the color of the mod without opening it, but somewhat worsens the readability of the inscriptions on it: the name of the device and the manufacturer’s logo, power range, main features and brand of the chip used. The sides are given to logos, a list of the delivery set and stickers (the color of the device, sales barcode and control of the originality of the device).

What’s in the box

The delivery set is extremely modest: the mod itself, a Type-C cable for charging and a small manual in several languages ​​(there is no Russian). The accompanying documentation is so basic that it does not even have a full technical description of the mod, nor even a full description of how to work with the board, only how to turn on / off, change the power and that’s it. How to get to the menu, how to set up temperature control or change the interface colors – you will have to figure it out yourself (well, or read a little below). Separately, I will note the foam plastic tray. Finally, the designers figured out how to make cutouts on the sides of the device, now you can take it out with one hand and you don’t have to shake it out while doing a shamanic dance around the fire.

Design

The first thing that catches your eye is the correspondence between form and content, or rather, name and size. I don’t even know if it happened by chance, or if this is subtle trolling by some Chinese who knows Russian and suggested this name, but the name MDURA suits this as well as anywhere. The mod is really huge! It won’t be comfortable to hold in every hand, although its weight is relatively small. The outside of the device is completely covered with a rubberized shell, individual elements act as metal overlays, only the plastic screen stands out (but still framed with metal) and the eco-leather insert on the other side (in the same frame). The Fire button is located on the side, it seems small, but in fact it is huge and when pressed on the very edge it may not work the first time, although if you press it strictly in the center, it is quite convenient. The rest of the buttons are small and located under the screen, you will rarely have to use them, so if they work, that’s fine.

The overall brutality and rubberized material coating on all sides allowed the mod to receive an IP67 certificate: full protection from dust and partial protection from water (immersion to a depth of 1 meter for no more than 30 minutes). Also, the soft coating will prevent scratches and abrasions from appearing on the case over time, and will even help protect the device after a fall from a small height.

Of the decorations, it is worth noting first of all the “leather-like” insert with MDURA embossing and two decorative lines. Then you can notice no less decorative screws on metal plates and several inscriptions (the Wotofo logo above the screen and the name of the chip under it).

The upper edge is almost entirely metal and consists of two elements – the main plate and a steel connector. The diameter of the latter is 24.5 millimeters, and the total width of the mod allows you to easily screw evaporators with a diameter of up to 30 millimeters here. The central positive pin in the connector is spring-loaded, and underneath it you can clearly see the sealing gasket, so you won’t have to worry about the board if your tanks leak.

A massive battery compartment cover lock can be seen below, two rows of ventilation holes (I wonder how they relate to the device’s water resistance?), several mandatory inscriptions and icons. There are no legs as such, their role is performed by a slightly protruding rubber pad.

The cover lock is quite tight, it definitely won’t open accidentally even without batteries installed. After sliding it to the side, the spring-loaded cover opens, on which the contact pads (including the balancing one) are clearly visible, an indication of the correct polarity of the batteries and their letter designation. There is a rubber seal around the lid, confirming complete water resistance, but the white in the photo in the depths is simply the unpainted zinc alloy of the case.

Personal impressions and conclusions

I’ll start with the cons, and what I didn’t like: huge size, 18650 batteries, incomplete instructions and not the most “clear” operation of the Fire button. Now about the pros: waterproof and dustproof, scratches and abrasions will not bother you, decent battery life, convenient and not overloaded controls, the ability to choose the screen color or turn it off completely, installation of evaporators with a diameter of up to 30 millimeters.

What’s the bottom line? As a powerful home device, this is a good option. But carrying such an MDUR with you is already a dubious pleasure. Perhaps the situation could have been saved by a carabiner attachment point so that the mod could be hung on a backpack or belt, but it is not here. The price? In my opinion, it is quite adequate, even at the start of sales, and then it will become even lower.
